The Tribune won in several categories, including general excellence, reporting, advertising, photography, design, sports, multimedia and more. As a special note, Annie Granlund (nee Harman), who got her start in journalism as a high school columnist for the Tribune, won three awards for her work at the Owatonna newspaper.

Matt Purpur, an advertising representative, brings home five first-place awards and 11 awards overall. The Herald also won the Community Service Award.

The Grand Forks Herald won an award for community service, a former Herald publisher was honored for his service to the industry and the newspaper won more than 60 awards overall at the annual North Dakota Newspaper Association contest.
The first-place award in the Community Service category was given to the team of Joe Bowen, Mike Jacobs and Chuck Haga for their continued coverage of efforts to install a memorial to Charles Thurber, who was hanged more than a century ago in Grand Forks.

The Jamestown Sun received 47 awards in the annual Better North Dakota Newspaper Contest, announced by the North Dakota Newspaper Association in a virtual presentation Friday.
The news, photo and advertising awards were for work done in 2020.
The Sun competes in the small multi-day publication category along with Devils Lake, Dickinson, Wahpeton, Williston and Valley City.

The Sun received third place in General Excellence in its circulation category. The award covers all aspects of each newspaper, including its news and feature stories, photography, advertising, graphic design and headlines, according to NDNA.
