Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of Army Staff, while incumbent Lt Gen B S Raju will take charge as South Western Army Commander.
It s an unusual occurrence for a three-star general to take over as Vice Chief first, before serving as an Army Commander. Vice Chiefs have traditionally been people who had previously served as Army commanders.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) March 17 (ANI): Lieutenant General BS Raju on Wednesday handed over command of the strategic Kashmir-based 15 Corps to Lieutenant General DP Pandey.
Lieutenant General Pandey, who has taken over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (15 Corps), is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and was commissioned into the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in December 1985 from Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.
According to an official release, Lieutenant General Raju s tenure over the last one year is defined by an improved security environment prevailing both on the Line of Control and in Kashmir.

While interacting with visiting envoys, GOC 15 Corps Lt Gen BS Raju lambasted Pakistan and its proxies for making several attempts to scuttle grass-root level democracy by targetting elected representatives. Envoys from several countries are on a 2-day visit to J&K to assess the ground situation
Jammu: People of Kashmir Valley have seen through propaganda unleashed from across by Pakistan and have chosen to ignore it, said Lt Gen BS Raju, GOC 15 Corps, drawing the attention of visiting foreign envoy towards lies being pedalled from across by Pakistan to portray India in a bad light.
Lt Gen Raju was responding to queries by heads of missions during their visit to Badami Bagh Cantonment here today.
