Every weekend during the college lacrosse season, US Lacrosse Magazine staff will riff here on the juiciest matchups, trendiest topics, biggest storylines and hottest takes. Opening weekend was fun, yes? Let’s do it all again. It was something of a soft opening, with only a handful of games kicking off our 2021 Division I women’s lacrosse season. At the time of this writing, there are 33 games scheduled not counting contests that have already been postponed for this upcoming Friday-Sunday.

Wednesday Wrap: Hofstra Edges Saint Joseph s, Duke Offense Erupts

What at first didn’t look like a back-and-forth affair became one that came down to the wire. Grace Langella assisted Arianna Esposito with 16:10 left in the first half, giving Hofstra an early four-goal lead over Saint Joseph’s. The Hawks quickly responded, scoring four of the next five. What ensued from there was the textbook definition of back-and-forth. It was Langella who later gave Hofstra a 10-9 lead with 8:31 remaining that would prove to be the final. Neither team held an advantage of more than one goal in the second half.
