The commission of inquiry into state capture has heard details of former state security minister David Mahlobo direct involvement in unlawful activities at the State Security Agency (SSA).

She is an employee of the agency, whose identity needs to be protected, as she is part of the investigations into corruption at the agency.
Her role at the commission was to confirm the testimony of a ‘Mr Y’, who is also involved in the conversation but just came out of a coma and is in no condition to appear before the commission.
State Security Agency (SSA) operatives unlawfully gave firearms and ammunition to non-members, but it is not known why the weapons were given or what they were used for. This information was revealed by the SSA acting director-general Loyiso Jafta, who was testifying before the State Capture Inquiry on Tuesday.
The State Security Agency (SSA) was used for a number of years to fund ANC activities, in some cases in the lead up to elections, without any officials accounting for the resources looted. This happened after the agency was politicised, with a paradigm shift from national to state security that favoured the head of state. The commission of inquiry into state capture heard these details from acting director-general of the SSA, Loyiso Jafta, on Tuesday. Jafta said as much as R9-billion in assets has been looted from the SSA over a period of about four years, and while efforts to recover it have been successful in some instances, the agency has also met challenges along the way.

It was another day of astonishing testimony at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture concerning the State Security Agency (SSA).
On Tuesday, the agencyâs acting director-general Loyiso Jafta shared information about the agency s operations.
He told the commission of how billions of rands were secretly siphoned off as the agency attempted to protect former president Jacob Zuma and his regime.
State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo tried to block Jafta s testimony citing that it would compromise state security, however her request was not granted.

A top official of the State Security Agency has laid bare the rot, abuse of power and resources at the unit where employees walked away with millions of rand in hard cash for projects that had nothing to do with its mandate.
Loyiso Jafta, the director-general of the State Security Agency (SSA), yesterday made startling revelations before the commission of inquiry into state capture on how the agency was used to fight factional battles in the ANC and its resources pillaged.
His testimony had earlier been delayed by more than two hours after state security minister Ayanda Dlodlo brought an application to postpone his evidence, citing threats to national security.
