LOWVILLE — If you’ve been trying to ignore that nagging voice in the back of your mind to return that library book that you took out mid-pandemic to the Lowville
For five years, representatives of the Lowville Food Pantry have inched closer to their dream of moving into their own facility.
They bought land at 5502 Trinity Ave. from QubicaAMF Worldwide LLC for $1. The building previously served as a casket company and was later used to create bowling pins.
The plan is to have a modern facility constructed at this site. The food pantry would then no longer need to rent space from the Lowville Farmerâs Co-op. The building used by the pantry now is 2,800 square feet, and itâs a short distance from where the new 3,600-square-foot structure is being built.
LOWVILLE â Lowville Food Pantry CEO Daniel N. Taylor has announced that the public has the opportunity to make their donations count twice.
He said an anonymous donor put up $25,000 with the hopes the public would match the amount. From April 1 to May 31, every dollar donated will be matched by the anonymous donor up to $25,000.
Mr. Taylor said the funds collected will be used to complete construction on the new Lowville Food Pantry building.
âItâs looking good,â the CEO said of the construction project. âThey are finishing up the trim work, along with the heating, electrical and plumbing work. Things are falling into place. We need to have inspections done and we hope to move in May.â
