A plan to bring full-service restaurants to downtown Lowell by creating additional alcohol sale permits solely for the historic area will not become law this year.
Hoosier lawmakers are unanimously supporting a Lowell initiative to invest the proceeds of its recent water system sale more aggressively than usually is permitted with government funds.
The Senate Public Policy Committee voted 9-0 to authorize the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission to issue up to 10 additional permits for restaurants to sell beer, wine and liquor
"You can get about a percent higher rate of return. Over a period of time that could mean an extra million dollars of interest for the town," said state Rep.
