Turnout for the May 4 primary in Mahoning and Trumbull counties will be low, but no worse than it’s been in previous odd-numbered years, election officials say.
“There just isn’t going to be a large turnout for this primary,” said Thomas McCabe, deputy director of the Mahoning County Board of Elections.
“There’s no interest in these kind of elections, unfortunately,” added Stephanie Penrose, director of the Trumbull County Board of Elections. “These elections affect your everyday life through taxes, roads. But there’s a major lack of interest in odd-year primaries. It will go up a little in the fall election, but not where it should be.”
