Downtown sculpture to honor Ron Kelley proposed
The Hutchinson City Council approved the first step Tuesday toward accepting a statue for permanent display in front of the Wiley Building to honor late longtime downtown promotor and Hutchinson businessman Ron Kelley.
The proposed art, a painted steel Eagle with a five-foot wingspan holding an American flag in its talons, is being purchased by the Kelley family and donated to the city. The sculpture will be seven feet tall, including its pedestal.
Under the city’s process for accepting donated art, however, the council must review a preliminary proposal and either reject it or forward it to the Art Design Council for formal review, said Parks Director Justin Combs.
