The 31-year-old grew up in Dededo and attended Simon Sanchez High School for three years before finishing his senior year at Armijo High School in California. He received his undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and cell biology at the University of California San Diego.
Pineda’s motivation to go into the medicine field was driven by many different factors.
“I initially became interested in the field when I witnessed my family struggled to get access to health insurance and obtain even the most basic medical attention,” he said. “As I explored the field, I fell in love with biomedical science and all the complex ways we try to understand disease.
