Louisiana healthcare workers begin receiving COVID-19 vaccinations Monday

Lafayette Daily Advertiser Louisiana’s healthcare workers became the first group of people in the state to receive Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Monday morning as the state begins what will likely be a months-long vaccination process.  “It is a great day. It s a day that we have been preparing for planning for and praying for, for about nine months now,” Governor John Bel Edwards said at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans Monday morning.  “And of course this is the beginning of the end. We are not at the end yet. But it is such a blessing to have the vaccine in the state of Louisiana.”

Louisiana hospitals anxiously await Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines

Thousands of frontline health care workers in Louisiana are anxiously awaiting the first doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine this weekend as the state’s initial allocation is expected to be delivered in the next few days, pending FDA approval. Ochsner Health System is expecting to be able to vaccinate thousands of its frontline health care workers across the state by Monday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Hart said, with distribution hubs stationed in New Orleans, Shreveport and Lafayette. Those hubs are prepared to share an initial shipment of 9,375 doses of pharmaceutical company Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, if the federal Food and Drug Administration grants it emergency use authorization in the next few days.
