Louisianans ages 12 and up can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine, following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) action late Wednesday formally recommending the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for this age group. Prior to this announcement, the Pfizer vaccine was recommended and authorized for people no younger than 16 years of age.
The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) authorized the emergency use of the Pfizer vaccine for this age group earlier this week. On Wednesday, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices overwhelmingly recommended, and the CDC approved, this use of the vaccine, based on clinical trial data that found it to be safe and effective.

Some are opting to get the COVID-19 shot at bars instead of vaccination sites: Every idea is worth considering
Health officials across the country are getting creative in how they convince hesitant Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine. In West Virginia, the state will give residents ages 16 to 35 a $100 saving bond if they get vaccinated.
The incentives come as the amount of Americans getting vaccinated is dropping. According to the CDC, the daily average for vaccinations has dropped 20% since the start of the month, a worrying trend.
Less than one-third of Louisiana s population has received a first dose. The state has mass vaccination sites, including one located in Baton Rouge. But these locations are inconvenient for some.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) Providers can immediately resume vaccinating patients for COVID-19 using the Johnson & Johnson shot in Louisiana, state health officials said Saturday.
The Louisiana Department of Health “encourages all Louisianans to take advantage of the available vaccines, so the state can continue to slow the spread of COVID-19 and put the pandemic in its rearview,” the department said in a news release. “The pause was recommended after reports of six cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals following administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.”
