Thibodaux Main Street program earns national recognition

Thibodaux Main Street program earns national recognition The Courier and Daily Comet Thibodaux Main Street has received accreditation after meeting nationally recognized standards for its work to create jobs help grow businesses downtown. The local program is evaluated each year by Louisiana Main Street, which works in partnership with Main Street America to identify local programs that meet 10 national performance standards. Criteria include fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting progress and actively preserving historic buildings. “We are excited to be a nationally accredited Main Street program once again, particularly after the challenges we faced in 2020, said Danielle Stein, the Thibodaux program s executive director.  I, and our board of directors, are committed to strengthening our community by working alongside the City of Thibodaux and our downtown businesses and residents.”

According to a release from New Iberia Main Street, Main Street America and its partners announce the list of accredited programs each year to recognize their exceptional commitment to preservation based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach. In 2020, Main Street America programs generated $4.14 billion in local reinvestment, helped open 4,356 net new businesses, generated 14,988 net new jobs, catalyzed the rehabilitation of 8,488 historic buildings, and clocked 983,702 volunteer hours, the release states.

Event Description Attendees will hear from Mary Helmer, State Coordinator of Main Street Alabama, a statewide nonprofit organization; Greg Phillips, Director of Main Street Arkansas, a program of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program; and Ray Scriber, Director of Louisiana Main Street, which is housed in the Division of Historic Preservation. Each coordinator will discuss new and innovative programming that local Main Streets have done to prosper and even grow during the pandemic.
