Praising teachers It s no secret that teachers and education staff have worked tirelessly to adapt and overcome the challenges of working during the pandemic and trying to minimise the impacts of lockdown on children s learning. Messages of praise have been flooding in for teachers and schools from families across Cumbria thanking them for all their support during the pandemic. We asked families on the News & Star/The Cumberland News Facebook page if they had any schools or teachers they wanted to thank for their support during the pandemic. We were inundated with messages for the wonderful work of school staff with people commenting that every staff member was worthy of praise for all they have managed to achieve in such difficult circumstances.

Elizabeth Reapy’s Natalie is one of those characters who stays with you long after you’ve finished the book she occupies. If “occupies” is even the right word, given Natalie’s preoccupation with not taking up too much space in the world. Fixated on her body and her tendency to binge at times of stress, she takes the reader on a journey – both literal and metaphorical. As she moves through the world, the book begins to resemble a series of linked short stories more than a novel, but there’s something very fitting about where the chapter breaks tend to fall. The girl we first meet in Bali is very at odds with herself; but by the time she finishes up in Dublin, she is much more comfortable in her own skin, and well able to stand up for herself and articulate her needs and desires. Along the way she meets a host of interesting characters – some interesting, some off-putting – and learns something about herself in the process. Skin is a book to be savor

The actor s selection follows in the steps of Irish actors Ruth Negga,Domhnall Gleeson, and Andrew Scott,all previous recipients of the honour, which is presented by European Film Promotion (EFP).
Fionn is best known for his roles as Eddie in
Dating Amber (2020), Jamie in
Normal People (2020), and Ned in
Handsome Devil (2016). In their selection, the jury commented that O’Shea
“has an ebullience and winsome charm yet, at the same time, misery and rage are always bubbling just below the surface”. This has most notably been seen in his performance as closed-off gay teenager Eddie, in David Freyne’s coming-of-age comedy
