Honoring Our Relative Lost to COVID-19, Robert L Meyers (1936–2020) - San Francisco Bay Times

By Louise “Lou” Fischer– On July 11, 2020, my partner Amy Meyers also a contributor and friend to the San Francisco Bay Times and I got the dreaded phone call that we knew was a possibility but hadn’t expected. As I watched Amy’s knees buckle and heard the plaintive wail that preceded the torrent of tears, my heart sank with sadness, anger, and a feeling of “this s–t just got real.” A few days earlier, her father, Bob, had been admitted to a Dallas hospital for treatment of pneumonia caused by a mysteriously acquired case of COVID-19. How he ever came in contact with the virus is a mystery to this day. As an elderly man with limited mobility (he could walk, but the backyard snails under the noontime sun of a Dallas summer moved faster), he rarely left the house since the onset of the pandemic.

is there a motion? i make a motion here s my only comment, i guess. these are great candidates. but my issue with these, like we ve only gotten one candidate per seat. i would this is the first time i ve seen this come before us but i would like to have had, as we do with every other seat, choices here, and these organizations to forward us multiple choices. not to anyone that came before us that we wouldn t select you going forward, but that we have a choice with these organizations. my preference would be to continue this and to have a choice and have the organizations put more than one forward. i make a motion to continue 1, 2, 4 and 5, to the call of the chair and subsequently ask these organizations come back to us with more than one appointee per seat. chairperson kim: i m supportive of a continuous of those seats, as well and i want to request the organizations that do appoint, more than just seeing more than one applicant, i d like to see greater diversity.

there are people, i suspect, who will oppose my reappointment, who believe that i served with a different role, or with a different rule a different view on the task force. i think that attitude is healthy. i think it is important to have diversity so that we promote compliance. the first thing i would do on the task force is to change the bylaws with respect to section 104.4. i believe it was inappropriate and unwise, etc. the second is to strengthen the procedures related to handling of complaints. and that leads to the third point, which is to strengthen our work on the outreach, education, and training so that we are doing pro-active work with departments to ensure compliance and protect the rights of the public to ensure that we have a better government. i am pleased to answer any questions you might have. gregg s thank you. i know you also applied thank you. i also applied for the consumer advocate seat seat. tell me how you feel you fulfilled that seat. i have

that you can spread things down into subcommittees or volunteers or other organizations but i think my key initiative, the thing i would other than outreach and education and everything else i would focus on making meetings and the committee much more efficient. i have that background. i am a process and procedures geek. that s what i do. i don t like to hear people say, well, we ve never done it this way or this is how we always do it. no, you have to that said, i think you have to stay within we have city charters, we have the constitution for a reason. you have to stay within the rules of the game. i keep hearing supervisor kim and campos and farrell saying, well, you change the rules and you ve changed the voting you know, that s almost a red herring. i m looking at the deeper level of that is ok, you had to change the rules because you didn t have enough people showing up. that s the symptom. let s look at the cause. why aren t people coming to meetings? there
