Dear Editor: There seems to be a good bit of noise concerning the upcoming vote on the high school ballot initiative and that is what it is, noise not facts. While nobody wants higher taxes it is time to face up to some of the facts an undeniable.
It has been a year of celebration at The Opera House at Boothbay Harbor. Twenty years ago on Sept. 29, 2003, the nonprofit of the same name purchased the 1894 building for $1.2 million from John and Sarah Abbe. Almost half of that price was raised.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of every non-profit and non-profits are the thrum that create impact in thriving communities. As residents, we are so fortunate to host as many non-profits as we do on the peninsula and, most importantly, to partner with.
