Southern Illinois Connector Highway Project
A proposed four-lane rural expressway connecting southern Illinois to the St. Louis Metropolitan Area is getting support from Illinois U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth.
Duckworth, a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science & Transportation, recently met virtually with southwest Illinois leaders to discuss the Southwest Illinois Connector Highway Project.
Illinois junior senator says the project would help ease the bottleneck of traffic on Interstate 57 and boost the region s economy. President Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposal includes 456 billion dollars for transportation-specific infrastructure.
Duckworth was joined at the virtual meeting by several local officials including Murphysboro Mayor Will Stephens, Randolph County Director of Economic Development Chris Martin and Four County Highway Coalition Chairman Dr. Marc Kiehna.

EDWARDSVILLE Cross-promotions and events involving beer and barbecue in Edwardsville just got easier.
Ryan High and his wife, Laura, bought the local Sugarfire franchise in the Ironworks development. They closed the deal on Nov. 1. The Highs own the adjacent Global Brew; an outdoor patio separates the two. Sugarfire has 4,500-square-feet and employs 20 people.
“We want to hone in on the local ownership aspect,” High said. Customers should expect to see Sugarfire 618 taglines, for example. “When the opportunity came up, we knew we couldn’t let it pass due to the proximity.”
