JACKSON, MI – Weekends and holidays could become casual drinking affairs on downtown Jackson streets.
The Jackson City Council voted 6-1 to approve the creation of a “social district” downtown at its April 27 virtual meeting. Councilman Freddie Dancy, Ward 2, voted no.
First introduced in Michigan last summer, the district designation allows local governments to establish areas where outdoor drinking is permitted in specially marked containers. The goal of the district is to open up business opportunities for restaurants and bars, an industry severely affected by COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.
