Providing a positive environment where athletes can exercise while simultaneously working on peer relationships, social skills and repetitive behavior is a goal for Autism MANA CrossFit Class.
The nine-week class which began Saturday at Fit Fast Strong CrossFit, was started by native Hawaiian, Kevin Blunt.
Blunt said while living in Hawaii, he and his son participated in a CrossFit program specifically for children on the spectrum which inspired him to begin his own Autism Mana program.
After moving to Pueblo West from Hawaii last February, Blunt had trouble finding programs for his eight-year-old son, Makai.
“Having participated in a similar program in Hawaii, I realized there was nothing here locally that provided a similar outlet for children on the spectrum,” Blunt said. “Because after seeing firsthand what a great program it can be for kids to exercise and more importantly do so in an environment that’s nonjudgmental – it allows the kids to be themselves without
Diaz, originally from South Carolina, started working with shaved ice at the age of 13.
“I worked for one of my history teachers at school, he had a shaved ice truck just like (mine),” Diaz said. “He needed some help, and I was like, ‘I’ll give you a hand.’”
Diaz found a love for the trade early on, working in the shaved ice truck through high school and here and there in college.
After getting married and working in banking for a couple of years, Diaz and his wife Lisa found themselves Colorado residents.

With warmer weather and sunny skies, off-highway vehicle enthusiasts are once again ramping up for their sports season. But with a sharp rise in complaints regarding motorists riding on private property, the Pueblo County Sheriff s Office has issued an advisory on what is legal and illegal for off-highway vehicle riders.
An off-highway vehicle is any vehicle designed to be used off of a public roadway, such as four-wheelers, dirt bikes and go-carts. Unless specifically modified to be compliant with Colorado state law, using these vehicles on a public road is illegal.
