EAST HAVEN Sixteen people were displaced and a family pet killed on Sunday in a fire that took more than an hour to get under control, officials say.
East Haven Fire Chief Matthew Marcarelli said the department was called at 1:33 p.m. about a fire at Countryside Condos at 75 Redwood Drive. He said East Haven police noticed the fire while on patrol.
“We’re not even a minute up the road,” Marcarelli said. “They found heavy fire in the rear of the building on arrival, began their efforts to extinguish it. It was a very large volume of fire.”
