Minneapolis, Minnesota – On Tuesday, the trial of Derek Chauvin ended with the prosecution’s expert on use of force on the stand, Los Angeles Police Sergeant Jody Stiger.
As testimony began on Wednesday, Chavin’s lawyer, Eric Nelson, cross-examined Stiger for over an hour and those that are familiar with “experts” in law enforcement, that are certified for court proceedings, are questioning the use of Stiger, considering the magnitude and importance of this case.
Indeed, Law Officer reached out to several renowned court experts that have years of experience in criminal and civil trails testifying on police matters and there should be much to question on why the State used, what appears to those we spoke with to be an inferior expert.

Minneapolis – We previously wrote about the questionable credentials of the prosecutor’s expert witness in use of force in the Derek Chauvin case. Our first clue that something wasn’t right was when the State never asked or vetted Los Angeles Police Sergeant Jody Stiger on the stand, a standard practice when using expert witnesses. Essentially, this is done to give the jury a foundation to why the testimony of this expert should be held to a higher standard than others.
Various experts quickly reached out to us and confirmed what we initially thought. Something definitely wasn’t right. After Defense Attorney Eric Nelson completed his cross examination, it was all but confirmed that Stiger was far from an actual expert. In his own admission, he had only served as an expert in one case. That was a case in Los Angeles where he said he was an “investigator.” That isn’t exactly being used as an expert but rather typical law e

In Minneapolis, a police use-of-force expert testified Wednesday that former officer Derek Chauvin employed unreasonable and excessive force against George Floyd last May when he used the full weight of his body to press one knee against Floyd’s neck and the other against his back for nine minutes and 29 seconds. Los Angeles Police Sergeant Jody Stiger was called as an expert witness for the prosecution at Chauvin’s murder trial.
Sgt. Jody Stiger: “Mr. Floyd was not resisting. He was in the prone position. He was handcuffed. He was not attempting to evade. He was not attempting to resist. And the pressure that was being caused by the bodyweight could cause positional asphyxia, which could cause death.”
