Another 40,000-plus cases of COVID-19 were reported in Los Angeles County Friday as the easily transmitted Omicron variant of the virus continued to make its impact felt, particularly in hospitals, where patient numbers continue to rise. Since Jan. 1, the county has reported more than 400,000 new COVID-19 cases.
Thousands headed to malls and stores in Los Angeles County Friday for Black Friday amid a heightened police presence in response to recent "flash mob" thefts and smash-and-grab robberies.
On Black Friday, the Los Angeles Police Department will be "dedicating resources to some of these higher-end locations to deter further acts of violence," Chief Michel Moore said.
