LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Superintendent Austin Beutner and Board of Education members responded today to Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino s plans to have the city sue schools to reopen, calling the move a political stunt that will not reopen schools.
“The problem is COVID levels in the Los Angeles area have not for a single day since March met the state standards for the reopening of schools, Beutner and the board members said in a statement Friday. “We cannot break state law to reopen schools.
Buscaino announced Thursday his plans to introduce a motion next week asking the city attorney to explore legal options for forcing the L.A. Unified School District to reopen its campuses for in-person learning, despite the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

LAPD officer gives back to community
LOS ANGELES - Tis the season for toy drives and food giveaways. Every year we see members of law enforcement step-up and give back. When asked for a recommendation for FOX 11 Holiday Heroes LAPD Officer Nickolas Ferara was nominated.
Ferara is the son of Croation immigrants. He grew up in San Pedro and wanted to be a police officer ever since he was a teenager.
He is now Acting Senior Lead Officer at Harbor Division serving in the very communities of San Pedro and Wilmington where he grew up. Connecting with the community is the job of Senior Lead Officer, but Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino thinks Ferara goes above and beyond.
