It s one of the deadliest days on record. This is notable: While higher death numbers were recorded last week, those totals included backlogged reports from over the Christmas holiday weekend. Today s numbers do not. That brings the county s cumulative death toll to 11,071 700 of those deaths have been reported since New Year s Day. Officials this week say we are now seeing the beginning of a post-holiday surge in new cases and hospitalizations, which they warn could translate to as many as 175 deaths, on average, every single day.
