UMass Memorial Medical Center gets first delivery of COVID-19 vaccine
WORCESTER - The first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived at UMass Memorial Medical Center Tuesday morning - a couple of hours ahead of schedule - and front-line workers are signing up to get a shot.
“It’s an extremely exciting day in the history of the pandemic but also for UMass Memorial,” said Elizabeth Radigan, director of clinical pharmacy services.
Radigan is the co-leader of the vaccination effort throughout the UMass Memorial Health Care system.
“Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the pandemic,” Radigan continued.

WORCESTER More Massachusetts hospitals received shipments of Pfizer s COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday as health care workers across the state prepare to get the first doses.
South Shore Hospital received its first shipment early Tuesday, and the first vaccinations are set to happen this week. I think the word unprecedented has been used a lot, said Kristopher Young, chief pharmacy officer for South Shore Health. It’s one small step, but a very significant step for us in this marathon we’re calling COVID-19.
UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester received 1,950 doses of the vaccine Tuesday morning.
“This is very exciting. We’ve been waiting for the vaccine to arrive for months and there’s been a lot of planning, so to actually have it on site and be able to start to administer it to our caregivers is very exciting,” said Lorie Gull, manager of pharmacy operations UMass Medical Center.
