The bill appoints an independent ombudsman to oversee residents who are in segregation. It also spells out that anyone who is pregnant, who has a disability or who is less than 21 or who is 65 or older cannot be placed in segregation. And for other residents the duration of segregation would be limited to three days in succession and no more than nine days in a two-month period.

BETHEL Selectmen unanimously approved a request for the Telstar senior class to use the town common for its parade on Tuesday, June 8. Like last year, graduates will stand by their posters six feet apart while family and friends circle the common in their cars saluting the class.
With the boards approval, Telstar Prinicpal Mark Kenney said he will now contact the town fire department and the Oxford County Sheriffs Office about helping lead the parade and assisting with traffic control.
In other news, Brandon Merry from Maine Adaptive, a year-round recreation program for children and adults with disabilities, informed selectmen that the program plans to use the basketball court in town for pickle ball on some Friday mornings throughout the summer and into fall. The current dates run from early July to late October and Maine Adaptive would be using the courts from 9 a.m. to noon.

BETHEL Monday, selectmen revisited discussion on a sidewalk project in town after receiving feedback from homeowners who would potentially be impacted by the project.
One of the residents called the project a “great idea” and said it provides “safer walking access” to people.
Nine letters total were sent out to homeowners, with two submitting feedback to the town.
Selectman Pete Southam asked board members if the town should hold off on contacting the Maine Department of Transportation until they get more letters from homeowners.
Select Woman Lori Swain and Selectman Neil Scanlon both thought two responses was not enough.
