Amidst fly-in to D.C., National Pork Producers Council President says they are pushing for Congress to fix the Proposition 12 issue in the next farm bill.
Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., is set to announce a proposal today to use the next farm bill to boost crop insurance coverage. The FARMER Act, which Hoeven will announce at a news conference with GOP colleagues on the Senate Ag Committee, would increase premium subsidies for 80% and 85% coverage levels.
Bird flu has infected more than 200 mammals since outbreaks began two years ago, but “it’s not been a problem” for hog farmers, said Scott Hays, past president of the National Pork Producers Council, on Monday. “I don’t anticipate it being an issue for our industry, but [it’s] certainly a watch-out for us.”
