Pupils reassured by Cumbrian public health director Colin Cox before school return

Cumbria’s director of public health issued a video message to returning students via youtube. “Many of you will be going back to school for the first time, and you might not think this, but that is a good thing,” Colin Cox said. “It is really important that you are back in school because it is important for you to see friends and teachers will be able to support you better when you are back at school. “Everything we know about children’s education and their health and wellbeing tells us that it is really important for you to be back in school.

What our readers thought about schools reopening in March

What our readers thought about schools reopening in March (Joe Giddens/PA) Earlier this week, the Prime Minister announced a ‘roadmap’ out of lockdown. In the conference, Boris Johnson outlined some key dates to be aware of in the path to reopening the country and (hopefully) putting the pandemic behind us. One of those announcements involves schools. All pupils in England’s schools are expected to return to class from March 8. Boris also announced that a £700m ‘catch up fund’ will be introduced to support teachers and pupils when they return to the classroom.   When schools re-open on 8 March, I want to make sure no child is left behind as a result of the learning they have lost over the past year.

ALTERNATIVES: Sweet Pepper Cafe will provide plant-based foods to the Barrow community READERS have reacted after a vegan cafe boss was forced to respond to a diner bemused by his plant-based burger. An online review posted on TripAdvisor slammed Barrow s Sweet Pepper Cafe the customer was bamboozled by the eatery s vegan offerings. The customer said they were forced to rush off and find a proper burger after not realising the cafe served only a plant-based menu. Owner Mig Carbonell received support from American and Canada after his stinging response to the diner on the site went viral. He said: It may have been very difficult for you to have seen our massive sign on the front before you entered the cafe saying Everything Made From Plants! as the sun was a bit low when you came in with your partner.
