Franciscan University mulls changes | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff writer STEUBENVILLE Franciscan University of Steubenville is considering changing its campus access, contingent on acquiring a 10-foot strip of land next to Super 8 as well as another small parcel on Franklin Avenue near Capri Sausage Shop and convincing the city to vacate Franciscan Way West. During Tuesday’s planning committee meeting, the university’s Joe McGurn briefed council on the concepts which he said are being talked about in university circles though no decisions to move forward have been made. “It’s possible within the next couple of weeks, the board meets in April, that we’ll get authorization from our board to make Super 8 a residence hall,” McGurn said. “If that happens, we’ll be looking at starting renovations there this summer to make it an upper class residence hall.”

Annual Easter egg hunt to make its return | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff writer STEUBENVILLE After a one-year hiatus, Steubenville Parks and Recreation and First Westminster Church are teaming up to bring back the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Parks and Recreation Director Lori Fetherolf said the egg hunt will be Saturday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Belleview Park. It’s open to kids aged 1-10 who live in Steubenville, but participation will be limited. “While this year’s Easter Egg Hunt will look a little different, that doesn’t mean it won’t be lots of fun,” Fetherolf said. “We will have five age groups instead of the usual three, and, with COVID-19 restrictions, there is a limit of 100 kids so we are requiring pre-registration.”

Steubenville park board resurrects Miracle Field plans | News, Sports, Jobs

Staff writer CONCEPT — Steubenville Parks and Recreation Chair Ken Peterson looks over a concept drawing for a Miracle Field. (Photo by Linda Harris) STEUBENVILLE A Miracle Field is back on the front-burner in Steubenville, though if it happens it’s going to look different than its sponsors originally envisioned. For starters, Urban Frontier has scrapped plans to use the North End field not because of the fierce opposition it generated at a public meeting earlier this year, but because site elevation variations “would have required major earth-moving, it would have eaten up most of the budget,” Urban Frontier’s Tom Way said.
