Former Baltimore Ravens player Lorenzo Taliaferro died on Wednesday afternoon.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff s Office in Virginia confirmed the 28-year-old died, but they are not releasing his cause of death. Police said they were called to a home for someone needing medical attention.
Police said Taliaferro died at a local hospital.
Taliaferro was drafted by the Ravens in 2014 and played for them until 2017.
In a statement, head coach John Harbaugh called Taliaferro a kind, smart, respectful and determined young man.

Ravens special teams coordinator Chris Horton joined the team the same year Taliaferro was drafted.

Lorenzo Taliaferro, a former bruising back for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL, died suddenly in his home in Virginia. He was 28 years old.
First responders were dispatched to Taliaferro’s apartment in Williamsburg, a 50-mile drive east of Richmond, where they found Taliaferro, but would only say that he required immediate medical attention, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office stated in its report according to
Yahoo Sports.
Taliaferro was raced to the emergency room of Riverside Doctors’ Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A family member later told local station WBFF-TV Fox45 in Baltimore that Taliaferro died of a heart attack.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - A former Coastal Carolina football great has died, according to authorities.
The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office in Virginia announced Wednesday night that Lorenzo Taliaferro died earlier in the day. Officials said deputies were dispatched to a home at around 3 p.m. where someone, later identified as Taliaferro, needed medical attention.
Deputies said he passed away at the hospital. Taliaferro was 28 years old.
Taliaferro played for the Ravens for three seasons, featuring in 19 games and rushing for 339 yards and five touchdowns. He was a fourth-round draft pick in 2014 after a standout career at Coastal Carolina.
Taliaferro is the all-time single-season rushing leader for the Chanticleers, producing 1,729 yards as a senior. He earned Big South Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2013.
