State Police identified the officers and suspect involved in a deadly police shooting in Deming last month. Dusty Francisco, a State Police spokesman, said Deming Police Lt. Zachary Sigman and Officer Sergio Quezada fatally shot Lorenzo Aguilera, 37, after Aguilera shot at them on Nov. 24. Zigman has been with the department for ten years and Quezada for five. Francisco said around 12:45 p.m. a Deming police officer saw Aguilera, who had a felony warrant, in a car at an apartment complex on Birch Street. Aguilera drove off and the officer gave pursuit until Aguilera crashed into a wall.

On November 24, 2020, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted to investigate a police shooting involving the DPD. State police agents learned on November 24, 2020, at approximately 12:47 p.m., a Deming Police Department (DPD) officer observed Lorenzo Aguilera (37) of Deming, sitting in a grey Acura parked at the LA Paloma Del Sol Apartment Complex on Birch Street. Aguilera was known to have a felony arrest warrant. As the DPD officer approached the vehicle, Aguilera fled, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
