COTTAGE GROVE – Marguerite Snow Scovel, age 100, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
On Jan. 7, 1921, a beautiful baby girl arrived on Planet Earth in the care of Lena and William Raymond Cook. Marguerite Snow Cook’s 100-year journey began in the upper northeast corner of South Dakota in the little town of Langford, where her Dad was the dentist and his brother, “Uncle Doctor” to Marguerite, was the physician for the 510 souls living there. She was preceded in birth by a brother she was not to meet, Marshall Emerson Cook, born in 1919, passed away in his sixth month, a victim of influenza. Her sister, Mary Louise, joined the family in 1924.
Marble Lake memories
Even the old folks love being pulled on Big Bubba.
Fishing right off our dock was fun for the grandkids.
Larry Sidener captains the pontoon as family enjoy the ride behind.
Taking a break to rest, our 11 passenger Tri-Toon is anchored at the sand bar.
This is why Sunset Cove got its name.
In the 1980s and early 90s, many of my summer days were spent about 135 miles north of here at a place called Sunset Cove Resort on Marble Lake just outside of Quincy, Michigan. My parents had a trailer and a boat dock a stone’s throw from the waters’ edge at Sunset Cove, and my husband, my kids, and many of our family members ventured north as often as we could during the warm months to take advantage of the fun to be had there. Sadly, my parents grew older and frailer as all parents do, and they sold their lakeside escape in 1995, the last year we visited the Quincy area.
