New Zealand’s biggest annual international tourism
business event has a new name and a new format to support
Kiwi tourism operators in preparing for the reopening of our
borders.
TRENZ Hui 2021 will be held in Ōtautahi
Christchurch on 5-6 May with a completely new programme
based on three themes: Revive – Reconnect – Revitalise.
To ensure cost is not a barrier to attendance, basic
registration is completely free to one representative from
eligible New Zealand tourism businesses, including inbound
tour operators. This has been made possible through support
from the Government’s Regional Events Fund. Additional
delegates will pay a registration fee and all applicants

If you’re looking for a warm welcome on your domestic travels, it seems you best head to Canterbury – the only New Zealand destination to feature in a new ranking of the most welcoming regions in the world. Canterbury came in at number five on Booking.com’s list of the ten “most welcoming regions on Earth” based on more than 130 million guest reviews of properties listed on the site.

Loren Heaphy, general manager of destination and attraction at promotional and economic development agency ChristchurchNZ, said it was an “entirely different event to those we typically attract to Christchurch”. It would draw visitors, stimulate the economy, and boost the city’s reputation as a venue for major events, she said. SailGP sought a New Zealand leg for its upcoming season because of the country’s entry into the event.

American, Australian, British and Chinese catamarans line up in the SailGP event in San Francisco, USA, in 2019. Details of the contract with SailGP were commercially sensitive, Heaphy said. The city was chosen partly due to Lyttelton Harbour’s favourable wind conditions and spectator possibilities.
