The Legislative Assembly of Tonga held its first sitting for 2024, on Monday 12 February, with the Acting Speaker, Lord Tu'iha'angana swearing in Tonga’s new Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Siale 'Akau'ola.
Tonga's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (MAFF) will receive equipment worth over USD2 million, under Japan's Non-Project Grant Aid (NPGA), signed by the Minister, Lord Fohe, and the Ambassador-designate of Japan to Tonga, HE Mr Inagaki Hisao, yesterday, 11 January, in Nuku'alofa.
Japan's Vice Minister of Finance for International Affairs, Mr. Masato Kanda visited Tonga from 24-25 October, he made a courtesy call on the Crown Prince and held bilateral meetings with government officials.
The biggest hog farm in Tonga, called Season Farm at 'Utulau, is raising over 200 commercial swines (sinamanu) and over 5000 piglets. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Lu led a tour around the farm, with the Minister for Agriculture, Food, and Forest, Lord Fohe, and CEO Dr. Viliami Toalei Manu, on 13 October. They hope that locally farmed meat can help reduce Tonga's high imports of poultry.
