In the final hours of the state’s session, the budget proposal passed in a 33-7 vote. The budget compromise would include a $2,550 Permanent Fund dividend and one-time energy relief payments.
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) The board tasked with drawing Alaska's political boundaries has approved new state Senate districts for the Anchorage area, with two members expressing opposition. The Alaska Redistricting Board adopted the plan, 3-2, on Wednesday, the Anchorage Daily News reported .
A combination of redistricting and legislative incumbents not seeking re-election will result in a Legislature that looks quite different next year. Due to redistricting, which occurs every ten years per the Alaska Constitution, 59 of 60 legislative seats are up.
If the legislature does not pass this bill before the session ends, it will become a ballot measure. The ballot measure could draw more blue voters to the polls during the midterm elections.
