Longtime Hingham town clerk not seeking reelection

After nearly 24 years, Hingham Town Clerk Eileen McCracken is finally calling it a day. With her seat on the ballot for this spring’s town election, she has decided to not run again.
“We have the best group of people who work in town hall, and I’ll truly miss them. Everyone works together so well,” she said.
When the town clerk seat became open in 1997, McCracken was working in Hingham’s treasurer/collectors’ office. Her experienced volunteering as a poll worker sparked her interest in the job.
“Of course that doesn’t make you an expert at working at the town clerk’s office, but I liked the idea of talking with all the people who came in and learning the ins and outs of being town clerk,” she said. “I thought I would like it, and turns out I did.”
