Longport NJ: Coast Guard rescues man whose kayak flipped

LONGPORT - The Coast Guard saved a man whose kayak overturned off a beach here Thursday. The rescue mission occurred around 11:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a person was calling for help in the vicinity of Longport Dog Beach, said a Coast Guard account. The beach is in Egg Harbor Township near the Ocean Drive Bridge to Ocean City. It is diagonally across an inlet from Longport. Coast Guard rescuers, who left Atlantic City in a 29-foot boat, arrived on the scene quickly, the account said. The rescuers pulled the man from the water, where he d been clinging to the kayak. The water temperature was estimated to be around 48 degrees.
