The Elgin City Council gave preliminary approval to an engineering services agreement with HR Green during Wednesday s committee of the whole. The feasibility study would evaluate alternatives for the mile and a half stretch of US Route 20 between Longcommon Parkway and Coombs Road that could help ease congestion.
Elgin officials are hoping a study of Route 20 traffic will offer up some solutions to reducing or eliminating the logjams caused by vehicles merging to one lane just west of Randall Road, especially during rush hours.
