Plans to build a 190 acre solar farm on countryside that inspired legendary novelist Thomas Hardy have been met with a madding crowd.
Locals are up in arms over the proposed plant, which would be equivalent in size to 150 Wembley Stadiums, with some 150,000 panels covering fields of green land in Dorset.
The farm would be able to power 13,000 homes each year, and would be just three miles away from another site where a similar-sized solar farm has already been earmarked.
Between them they will cover about 400 acres of verdant land in the Blackmore Vale, a patchwork of fields that have captured the imagination of Victorian author Hardy and poet William Barnes.

One major factor could be down to both locations being predominantly rural areas. Burton Bradstock and Chideock covers a large area, which includes parishes and villages such as Eype, Melplash, Netherbury, Nettlecombe while Yetminster, Bradford Abbas and Longburton include the villages of Sandford Orcas, Nether Compton, Mudford, Holnest and Holwell.
Yetminster, Bradford Abbas and Longburton area has reported no coronavirus cases according to latest figures. Both areas cover large land and a number of parishes, meaning the spread of Covid-19 around these areas is less than in a more enclosed urban area. West Dorset has reported low numbers of Covid-19 cases throughout the pandemic whereas North Dorset has reported varying levels of coronavirus cases.

COVID-19 case rates have been on the decline across north Dorset over three weeks, but one area has case rates exceeding 900 per 100,000. From the week ending January 30, Child Okeford and Iwerne Minster has the highest coronavirus case rates in the north Dorset and Blackmore Vale patch, with a rolling rate of 950.9. Despite this, most of the patch has returned to a case rate of 100 - 199 per 100,000, meanwhile the Yetminster, Bradford Abbas and Longburton area recorded as having less than three Covid-19 cases. Blandford Form Town, Shaftesbury, Mere and East Knoyle are in the 200 - 399 per 100,000 category. Compared to our previous article on case rates, published on January 14, the rates have dropped across the north of the county.

James Russell was handed a three-year driving ban for his part in the fatal two-vehicle crash near Sherborne. A 47-year-old man from the Sherborne area, who was riding a blue Triumph motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision near the junction of Boys Hill Drove and the A352 between Longburton and Holnest. Appearing at Weymouth Magistrates Court on Thursday, January 21, Russell, 78 and of Boys Hill, was ordered to pay £2,680 costs after admitting a charge of causing death by careless driving at a previous hearing.
