Nursing Home Staffing Levels 10:48 pm
The Wolf Administration announced this week that it wants to require Nursing Homes to boost staffing levels. Under this proposed Regulation, Nursing Homes would be required to provide at least 4.1 hours of Direct Care per Patient per day. This is an increase of close to 50%. That number right now is 2.7 hours.
The Administration says this would help reduce falls, malnutrition, and infections and improve Patient Care. The Administration says this is part of a “Series of Updates” to outdated Long-term Care Regulations that have been in place for over two decades.
Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam saying: “This is a historic move, because the current regulations have not been updated in nearly 25 years. This is problematic for many reasons, including the fact that the number of older Pennsylvanians is increasing, and the number of those needing skilled nursing facilities care will also rapidly increase.”
