History: Photo of Crowds of Fishermen on Montauk Docks

Photo: East Hampton Library’s Long Island Collection. According to a description of this photo from the East Hampton Library’s Long Island Collection: This image was probably taken at some of the fishing docks in Montauk, as the crowds appear to be fishermen walking down a pier. There are also several ships docked at the pier, each crowded with people. There are two buildings in the background. The ship in the foreground is called Babe. The date of the photo is unknown.

History: 19th Century Photo of Woman and Child in Amagansett

Photo: The Long Island Collection, East Hampton Library. Shown here is an older woman in a shawl. She is holding the hand of a toddler in a white garment.  Behind them is a house with a fence; most likely their home. This photograph was either taken or collected by Amagansett historian and librarian Carleton Kelsey. The photo is estimated to have been taken between 1875 and 1900.

Photo: The Long Island Collection, East Hampton Library. The East Hampton Library collection of images has some rare and interesting photos from Long Island s history. According to a description with the photo, this image shows Miss Anna Swain and Samuel Parsons, the assistant postmaster, in front of a post office. It was taken in East Hampton probably sometime between 1844 and 1900, according to the historical collection website.    

History: 19th Century Photo of Bay Shore Shack

The East Hampton Library collection of images has some rare and interesting photos from Long Island s history.   According to a description with the image, this picture shows a shack with the word Bayshore painted in large letters on the side. There are two men in the photo. One man leans on the building, the other sits on the porch attached to the building. There are several other buildings visible in the background of the image. This photograph was either taken or collected by Amagansett historian and librarian Carleton Kelsey.
