Cornyn on Tuesday said the Texas Democrats failed to realize the irony in their move, by using their collective power as the minority party to stop a bill from becoming law while coming to Washington D.C. to ask the president and Senate Dems to nuke the very Senate rule that protects the rights of the minority. In other words, you might say, a filibuster for me, but not for thee, Cornyn said.
The senior senator called the walkout by Texas House Democrats, an embarrassing dereliction of their duty and a shameful political stunt. They can t win so they re doing the equivalent of, I ll take my ball and go home, or in this case, I m simply running away, Cornyn said. But as Texans, standing up to a fight is part of who we are even if you know in the end you may not prevail. But instead, they turned their backs, hopped on a private jet, and ran from this fight.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework referenced in the letter would cost about $1.2 trillion over eight years. The potential price tag on Biden s total infrastructure package reached over $3.5 trillion after he met with senators Monday.
According to a White House fact sheet, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave Texas a C- on its infrastructure report card.
In the letter, the coalition of mayors nationwide urged for two points while the details of the package are developed:
No funding previously signed into law be repurposed or redirected to help pay for new investments in infrastructure
Empowering local decision-makers and committing to more localism by investing through existing systems like the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants, Community Development Block Grants and Surface Transportation Block Grants

WHAT S THE GOAL?
Democrats have two main objectives. First, they hope to deprive the Legislature of a quorum the minimum number of representatives who have to be present for the body to operate. Without a quorum, the Legislature can t vote on the voting proposal or other GOP-backed bills on abortion, transgender athletes and teaching about racism in U.S. history and nothing will pass.
