John Keith Meinert was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin on December 20, 1926 to Albert and Helen Meinert. In 1927 his family moved to Winona, Minnesota where he lived until finishing high school in 1944. While in high school he won the Bausch and Lomb Science Award and the Mathematics Award.

Wellesley resident Henry Kamio was awarded the Donald Welch Social Studies Prize May 10 at the Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School Baccalaureate Ceremony in Waltham. The Donald Welch Social Studies Prize was named in 2001 in order to honor Donald Welch, teacher of social studies for 28 years, and is awarded to a senior who has both completed excellent work in social studies and demonstrated genuine interest in the field.
