today, we should note, just to give a little sense as you re watching live shots of the manhunt that s still continuing as we await the press conference from the police and law enforcement officials there, just give you a sense, a little bit, of some of the political reaction that happened today. this was president obama in the midst of a pre-scheduled interview with cbs norah o donnell, as this was unfolding, being asked a about the situation. here s what he had to say. all right, joining us now do we have from loma linda medical center in san bernardino, where many of today s victims are being treated, nbc news correspondent morgan radford. morgan, we got a little bit of information in that press conference earlier, what can you tell us? reporter: based on the press conference that happened moments ago, we know that 17 overall were injured, but of that 17, 5 adults were brought here to the loma linda medical center. of those five adults, two were critical, two were fair, and one
families are trying to understand what happened yesterday. the whole community here in san bernardino, as was mentioned before, is really a close community. it s had its problems. it s gone through really difficult times with the housing crisis and the recession of recent times, was just getting back on its feet. i had visited it several times in the last year. and so it s just got to be devastating for them, for the families, for community. but one of the positive things about this is we just saw the loma linda hospital. of course, one of our gems here in california, trauma center, ready to receive these wounded. and i believe really going to do a great job in saving them. we certainly know that those first responders as well as the hospital staff caring for those injured are important, but we also note, congresswoman, the conversation regarding guns. this morning we had house speaker paul ryan on. i just want to play a little bit of what he said and get your reaction.
investigation, again, that news conference set to start here in about 30 minutes. at each of these news conferences, we ve learned a little bit more about what happened here and perhaps some of the motivations. we expect that to be the same with this news conference that will start here at the top of the hour. we are also learning more about the victims, the victims who are still being treated at area hospitals. trymaine lee is standing by outside one of those area hospitals with an update on the victims. trymaine, what do you have? reporter: that s right. like so many communities before, this community will be trying to heal. and some of that healing will take place behind me at the loma linda hospital where there are still five of the 17 victims are right there in the hospital. two are listed in critical condition. three are in stable. but as we know the physical injuries, the physical wounds, that s just part of it. now, this hospital is a level 1 trauma center. so they ve dealt w
did it. reporter: that takes us to location number three on this map, the cabin where the man had come to a dramatic end. now, martha, we re expecting updates today from the l.a.p.d. as well as the san bernardino sheriffs department. martha. martha: boy, it is a very tough day for the san bernardino sheriffs department because they lost one of their own in this shootout yesterday. what can you tell us about that, alicia? reporter: yeah. that s right. there were two deputies who were shot in that shootout that happened at the cabin and one died of his wounds at the loma linda hospital and the other one sustained very serious wound and could require multiple surgeries. california governor jerry brown is expected to attend the funeral of riverside police officer michael crane who dorner ambushed at a stoplight. so when one of these news conferences that we re supposed to have today has been scheduled for later in the day so that many of the officials can attend this first of what will
program that fixes the problems. and i fundamentally don t believe that this bill does it and i think a lot of republican also go out and run against this bill. now, this will be a big ideological fight but right now the bill has about 35% approval rating and my own analysis, i believe that the republican also do better in the debate. now, 30 million versus three million that i think they were willing to work with to try to help who were uninsured. let me say something here. i just found out i have prostate cancer. and i just came back from loma linda hospital in loma linda, california. when they told me how much it would take to cure me of the prostate cancer, i m here to tell you, i would be bankrupt.
