The trial of Cristhian Bahena Rivera, the 26-year-old former farmhand facing life in prison for allegedly killing Tibbetts nearly three years ago, continues Thursday.
Jurors heard from six witnesses Wednesday, including the boyfriend of Mollie Tibbetts, during a short day of opening statements and testimony in the first-degree murder trial.
During his opening statement, prosecutor Bart Klaver said the jury would see evidence that Bahena Rivera’s car was seen in the area where Tibbetts went for an evening run on July 18, 2018, that he admitted to killing her, that he kept her body stabbed up to 12 times in the chest, ribs, neck and skull in the trunk of his black Chevy Malibu before dumping her body in a cornfield with cornstalks covering her face. He allegedly led investigators to Tibbetts body.
