One dead in vehicle collision with dump truck Monday

Around 8:40 a.m. on Monday, local law enforcement agencies responded to a fatal car accident at the intersection of 1800 North and 1000 West in Logan. According to a statement from Logan City Assistant Chief of Police Jeff Simmons, a green sedan at the intersection attempted a turn to head southbound on 1000 West. A northbound dump truck collided with the sedan, resulting in fatal injuries to the driver of the car. The operator of the dump truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Simmons wrote. “Identification and notification of next of kin are pending,” Simmons wrote.

Man charged after allegedly stealing pickup, crashing into Logan townhome

A man who was arrested on Saturday after allegedly stealing a truck from a gas station and crashing into a townhome, damaging gas lines and displacing neighboring residents, has been charged in 1st District Court. Jessie Angel Oliva, 23, faces counts of second-degree theft, third-degree failure to stop at the command of law enforcement and three additional misdemeanors. Charges were filed against Oliva on Monday morning and he made his initial appearance for the charges that afternoon. On Saturday, according to a statement from Logan City Assistant Chief of Police Jeff Simmons, a vehicle was reported stolen from a gas station near 1400 North and Main Street in Logan.
