In an effort to allow further public input, the Ames City Council unanimously approved a motion that extended the hearing on the initial approval of the property maintenance code to their next regular meeting on Aug. 8. Prior to any public comment Tuesday, At-Large Rep. Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen had five motions amending the ordinance unanimously approved.
Ames Black Lives Matter will host a food donation drive Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The drive will be held at Lockwood Cafe, located at 4625 Reliable St. All donations will go to the nonprofit organization Food at First, which runs a pantry and daily free meal program.
Only non-perishable food will be accepted. Suggested items include canned chicken, fruit, beans and vegetables, as well as soups, cereals and olive oil. The group is also asking for grocery bags, scotch tape, tea towels and Ziploc sandwich and snack size bags.
