service of installing a LHMS camera at houses to keep it safe from burglars is proving to be a big hit
The Tumakuru district police along with Tumkur Smart City Limited have started a novel initiative and service for deterrence of
house break-in by engaging a system called Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS). Needless to say, the offer is highly appreciated as most vacationers want to leave home in peace.
This system was started as a pilot project around eight months ago since the lockdown was relaxed and people started to go out for vacations and for festivals leaving their houses locked. So far, there have been around 400 requests from the members of the general public informing the police that they are going out of station, requesting the LHMS cameras to be installed at their house temporarily

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) V. Suresh Babu said that the Police Department is taking steps to curb crimes in the city. He briefed about the initiatives being taken by the crime wing this year and also appealed to citizens to make use of the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS) by contacting the nearest police station. A close watch was also being kept on ex-offenders, he said.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Suresh Babu said that every year, many citizens leave to their native places to celebrate the festival. The city with a population of 25 lakh and with many of them possibly going out of the city, there was a possibility of miscreants from other places entering the city and committing thefts. The city police have issued an advisory to citizens going out on tours during the Sankranti holidays as house-breaking incidents could occur both day and night.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Deputy Commissioner of Police V. Suresh Babu advised those going out on tours to keep their valuables in the bank. They should use the LHMS (Locked House Monitoring System), being provided by the city police, to install secret cameras in their house, when going on tours during the holidays.
