Police ran roughshod over road commuters at several places across the State on Saturday in the aftermath of strict instructions issued by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to enforce lockdown from 10 a.m.
What was limited to imposing fines on travelling public beyond 10 a.m. till Friday suddenly escalated to a higher level of punishment as the police wielded lathis and seized their vehicles. The people were taken by surprise and entered into arguments with the police at several places resulting in mild tension.

Hyderabad: Residents of Hyderabad rushed to stores to buy essential items during the relaxation time of the first day lockdown in Telangana. People were seen buying vegetables, fruits, clothes and other items. The lockdown relaxation timing in Telangana is 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily.
The 10-day lockdown has been imposed in Telangana to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the state. The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at Pragati Bhavan.

Corona cases are surging across the country in the second wave. Telangana is seeing a daily caseload of 6000. Due to this, the Telangana High Court has issued a few directions to the State government, Police department, and the Public Health and Family Welfare department to control the spread of Covid cases.
The court directed the state government to consider weekend lockdown before May 8. The High Court expressed dissatisfaction over the government s failure to conduct more than one lakh coronavirus tests every day across the state, claiming that the government is not making serious efforts to stop the virus spread. “Imposing a night curfew is a waste of time, it said.
