With several Indian cities witnessing a surge in daily COVID-19 cases, state governments have decided to impose lockdown or curfew in order to curb the virus spread. India on Wednesday recorded the highest new COVID-19 cases of this year. On March 17, India logged 28,903 new coronavirus infections and 188 new fatalities. Despite the vaccination drive against coronavirus, India is witnessing an upward trajectory in COVID-19 cases.
If reports are to be believed Covid-19 pandemic seems to take a U-turn with an increase in the number of cases in some states. The resurgence of Covid-19 has alarmed the nation and the government yet again. One state that is experiencing a resurgence in coronavirus cases is Goa. Addressing the issue, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that Goa is at an “increasing risk.”
He also said that the state won’t be imposing a Janata curfew or a ban on the entry of tourists to Goa despite the increasing cases there. However, Sawan also stated that more tests would be conducted in Goa to keep the surge of coronavirus in check. Amid the rising concerns, the state officials have come to the conclusion that people who do not wear masks and do not maintain social distancing in public places restart fining people.

Mobility to places such as grocery stores, supermarkets and pharmacis has returned to pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels following the easing of lockdown restrictions. As coronavirus infections began to rise across the country in the third week of March, 2020, the central government enforced stern measures to curb people’s movement, to prevent the further spread of COVID-19. With this, India’s mobility to certain places recorded a significant shift in the month of March and April, according to data from Google’s mobility report.
