Welcome aboard: Look inside Dundee s first electric powered buses

April 17, 2021, 7:00 am A fleet of fully electric buses are set to hit the streets of Dundee later this year and we have had an exclusive sneak peek inside. Some 12 new buses are scheduled to arrive in the city in September and will predominately run on the 28 route from Myrekrik to Douglas via the city centre and Lochee. They will be brand new vehicles and be the city’s first electric-powered buses. The fleet is currently made up of diesel and hybrid vehicles. The 28 service was chosen because it runs through Lochee Road one of the most polluted streets in Scotland.

More 20mph zones on the horizon in Dundee © Mhairi Edwards More 20mph zones are on the horizon in Dundee. More 20mph zones across could be on the horizon in Dundee after a study found the widespread introduction of slower driving speeds elsewhere has led to fewer accidents. Councillor Mark Flynn, Dundee City Council’s city development convener, has said the council are “preparing a programme” to roll out more 20mph zones after the success of those introduced during lockdown. Specific locations have yet to be disclosed. The announcement comes after a study found the widespread adoption of 20mph on residential roads has resulted in fewer accidents in Edinburgh, according to researchers from universities in St Andrews, Edinburgh, East Anglia and Cambridge.
